True Blood S02E12: Beyond Here Lies Nothin’

I know I’m a bit late on posting this review but I’ve been busy lately and I only had a chance yesterday to rewatch the episode. I like to watch twice to make sure I don’t miss anything though I probably do.
  • The first half started off slow. Anna did a good job acting in this episode but little things bugged me here and there. She was showing anger but there was no stubbornness there. I would have thrown that stupid headdress thing off immediately. I would have tried to kick the egg out and definitely not licked it. Whose blood was that anyways?? I find it humorous that Jason and Andy got taken over but I wonder why it hadn’t happened much sooner? I can see her being more subdued after the threat to her brother but she didn’t seem as spunky as she should have been before that moment.
  • That whole queen scene was shown just so Erik and Sophie would be in the episode and probably had to do with just the actors getting a paycheck as there wasn’t a real need for it. Also, my initial thought was the crazy vampire bitch kidnapping Bill like the books have it but it could be Erik… that makes more sense. Why? Well given that scene and Erik “taking care of Bill” that would likely fall into play nicely with Ball wanting to keep the viewers guessing. It had to be a vampire, Bill didn’t sense whoever it was and they were wearing gloves to protect from silver. Erik could hire out too but I see him doing it personally.
  • Moving on, I’m glad Mary Ann is dead FINALLY. I’m not sure why Alan kept that up unless he was working his way up to something or just needed filler. I can’t imagine that since there’s plenty of material to work with. I was worried she might live on just because Sam morphed early and Tara saying she thinks it’s not over. Ugh. But I think it is done with. Eggs thankfully gets killed off. He annoyed me in every episode. He reminded me of a monkey, one that cries a lot. The one thing that will bite both Andy and Jason is the fact that he used someone else’s gun to kill Eggs which Andy now has even though he has no holster and no one saw him carrying a weapon and we’re not even sure he got his own weapon back yet… leaving potential gaping holes in his story. There is an implication here with Jason killing Eggs but no one knowing. I won’t say what it is but it’s actually quite obvious.
  • I wanted to gouge my eyes out when Hoyt’s mom was dancing and singing. “What the fuck” went through my head immediately. But the second half of the episode is where it is at because it sets everything up for season 3. Yup, I still wonder why the screen went black… to denote the second half which was more like a separate episode? Was it an introduction to Charlaine Harris’ cameo? Is there any significance behind it? Oh, if you didn’t notice, the writer of the Southern Vampire Mysteries herself makes a cameo midway through the show. The screen goes black and then it goes to Merlotte’s. Inside at the bar we see a red headed woman with glasses say “Well, I certainly never expected anything like that to happen here.” I didn’t notice the first go around and probably would have missed it on the second go. Ms. Sexy X pointed that one out to me. She’s sharp as a tack, I tell you.
  • I was glad to see Hoyt stomp out on his mom finally but sad to see him get stood up at Bill’s house. I really thought Jessica was going over there and to see her at the truck stop… damn. Not unexpected, she’s a young vamp and will feed uncontrollably. She didn’t have sex with the guy so maybe she’ll still stick with Hoyt. I’m not holding my breath here unfortunately. I hope they keep her on but I can see them killing her off next season. Hopefully I’m wrong on that account.
  • My favorite part of the episode was Sam going to find his parents. I’m super curious as to what that is all about. The whole adoptive parent scene was okay but I was getting built up for the rest. Obviously that’s next season. Oy. But so are the werewolves. :-)

So we FINALLY see the end of Mary Ann and the Mississippi plot now brewing. This season was alright, I don’t think it was as good as the first. I hope Alan doesn’t change up the 3rd season too much or if he does that it’s better. I’m really excited to see it but it’s mooooonths away.
